ALYoF Febuary Goal COMPLETE!!!

In October, the Houston Modern Quilt Guild did a Polaroid block swap.   I went a little crazy with my fussy cutting and made 20 sets of 5 to swap!!!  But, I got 100 adorable blocks in return!  I picked my 49 favorites, added the grey borders around each Polaroid and made a couple of them wonky when piecing them.  I had the top done in no time, but it sat in a pile, like so many other things!

BEFORE

ALYoF2014Thankfully, I have motivation to finish these projects this year with A Lovely Year of Finishes 2014.  I've mentioned this in a previous post, but you set a goal the first week of the month and link up your completed project the last week of the month to be entered in for some fabulous prizes.  (See my February goal post here.)  It's been really fun seeing everyone's projects in the Flickr group, from little bags to huge, intricate quilts!

I completed my Polaroid quilt really early this month, but it's been so gloomy, I wasn't able to take pictures until yesterday.  And, it was just a BEAUTIFUL day in Texas yesterday (don't mean to rub it in, all your northerners!!)  So, here she is......

AFTER

Even Mark Twain loves a fun quilt to read with!

This bench is outside one of our libraries and was just too cute to pass up for a photo op!

Some close ups of the blocks and my simple quilting of double lines along the seams.   Y'all suggested for me to keep it simple and let the blocks pop so that's what I did.  I think it turned out really neat!  Thanks for your feedback!  I love the online quilty world exactly for this reason!

I forgot to take a picture of the back but I used this adorable camera fabric in the 2wenty-thr3e line by Eric & Julie Comstock for Moda!

I also used this fabric for the binding, which was my first, successful attempt at machine binding both sides!  I alternated pins and clips very closely together and it worked great.  I didn't have to go back over to catch the binding anywhere along the edges and that was a first!

2 quilts down, 10 more this year, AT LEAST!!!!  I have lots of quilt alongs, block of the months, bee and baby quilts to complete this year, as well!  So, keep checking back with me.  Lots of fun stuff to come, including my first BLOG HOP and maybe some GIVEAWAYS!!!!  :)

  1. That is a great quilt. I had not heard of a Polaroid quilt before, but it sure does look like Polaroid photos. Cute!! Congrats on your finish.
